It's Been Awhile, Friends!
Hi, all!
It’s been awhile since we’ve sent out an OKD newsletter, so we’ve got a bit to catch up on! First of all, we want to congratulate our author Benjamin Niespodziany again on the release of his phenomenal full-length, debut poetry collection NO FARTHER THAN THE END OF THE STREET, which you can buy on our website here: NO FARTHER THAN THE END OF THE STREET, if you haven’t already.
Ben is going to be reading from his book at AWP in Seattle at the Hex/HAD event on Friday, March 10th from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at Broadcast Coffee on Roosevelt.
Ben is also going to be hosting a reading at AWP in Seattle, the AWP Offsite Circus, on Thursday, March 9th from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. at the Spin Cycle Record Store on Broadway. More details below:
Also, we want to mention that both of OKD Press’s 2021 authors, Dani Putney and their book SALAMAT SA INTERSECTIONALITY, and Jennifer Fliss and her book THE PREDATORY ANIMAL BALL, will also be around at the AWP fair, so be sure to stop by, say hello, and get your book signed!
You can buy Dani’s book here: SALAMAT SA INTERSECTIONALITY.
And you can buy Jen’s book here: THE PREDATORY ANIMAL BALL.
We also want to celebrate some OKD staff promotions! Last fall we promoted Steve Chang from Associate Fiction Editor to Fiction Co-Editor and Elizabeth Upshur from Associate Poetry Editor to Poetry Co-Editor. This meant that we now had two open Associate Editor positions, so we promoted our longtime Readers Veronica Klash to Associate Fiction Editor and Eric Lochridge to Associate Poetry Editor.
In addition, we want welcome a batch of new Readers to the OKD Team! Please give a big round of applause for Niki Angell-Gargiulo, Heidi Marjamaki, Paul Ruta, Jeanette Smith, and Emily Spangenberg on the Fiction Team and Kelsey Fuson, Linda Levitt, Maeve McKenna, Vic Nogay, and Timothy Arliss O’Brien on the Poetry Team.
Finally, we also want to celebrate two Okay Donkey Mag stories, “The Deaths of the Great Lakes” by Jeffrey Hermann and “My Mother Visits Me in America and is Offended by What the Dishwasher Can Do” by Tara Isabel Zambrano, being selected by Deb Olin Unferth (one of our all time favorite flash writers!) for inclusion in the Best Microfiction 2023 anthology!
You can read Jeffrey’s story here: THE DEATHS OF THE GREAT LAKES.
You can read Tara’s story here: MY MOTHER VISITS ME IN AMERICA…
We’ve got even more exciting news to talk about, such as, *ahem*, OKD Press’s new short story collection to be released this summer, but that’s enough for now! You’ll be sure to hear from us again soon and we’re wishing you all a great spring!
Sincerely,
The OKD Team: Eric N., Steve, Elizabeth, Veronica, and Eric L.
