OKD's November Newsletter
Hi, all!
We were all so excited to announce OKD Press’s brand new poet on Tuesday, Dani Putney! We’ll be publishing Dani’s wonderful debut poetry book, SALAMAT SA INTERSECTIONALITY, in April 2021. You can read a little more about Dani and their work below:
Dani Putney is a queer, non-binary, mixed-race Filipinx poet originally from Sacramento, California. Their poetry most recently appears in The Fourth River, Glass Poetry, LandLocked, and Tule Review, among other publications. They reside amid cowboys in the Nevada desert.
SALAMAT SA INTERSECTIONALITY is a poetic triptych that traces the evolution of the speaker's identity as a queer, non-binary, mixed-race Filipinx, and neurodivergent individual. Each “panel” of the speaker’s life represents a distinct period of growth: a youthful beginning, which features important interactions with the speaker’s parents; a sexually charged middle period that demonstrates the speaker’s explorations of queer sexuality; and a contemplative third section wherein the speaker reckons with their various “selves.” Imagery of the American West percolates through the collection to ground the speaker in their intersectional identity.
You can find Dani on Twitter at @daniputney and online at www.daniputney.com.

In addition to welcoming Dani Putney as our newest author, we also wanted to revisit this summer’s conversation around Black Lives Matter and the anti-racist movement. Okay Donkey has signed on with The Offing to help diversify, bring attention to, and educate the publishing and literary community about the issues of institutional and systemic racism. The Offing is working with the grassroots political activist Aurielle Marie to write a series of monthly letters on actions we can all take to strive towards these goals. You can read Aurielle Marie's first monthly letter: HERE.
Since the Holiday Season is quickly approaching, we wanted to let everyone know that we’ll be closing Okay Donkey Magazine submissions from Thursday, November 26th until Friday, January 1st to take a little break from work and recharge.
In order to give you all your literary fix for the holidays, we wanted to get together a few of our favorite of Okay Donkey’s holiday themed stories for you to peruse through and keep yourself occupied for the next 6 weeks.
We’ve got a grab bag of stuff here, from stories to flash to poems, from Thanksgiving to Christmas to New Years, and from pieces about food to family to relationships. Be sure to check ‘em all out!
